Restore Your Confidence

With these semi-permanent make-up techniques the trauma of hair loss can now be eased.

Cancer treatment can cause dramatic hair loss, which can be particularly upsetting for female sufferers. While a well made wig can disguise a bald head, the loss of the surrounding hair, like brows and lashes, can add to a woman's feeling of indignity and disfigurement.

Cosmetic tattooing can restore eye lashes, eye brows and areola and can help to reduce stretch marks and scarring including cleft palate.

Sylvie Walls, of Elle Holistic Beauty Clinic has been using this technique for over four years and gained her qualifications after completing an intensive course with international trainer Dawn Cragg. Sylvie is a member of the Society of Permanent Makeup Professionals, which requires annual refresher training in the USA.

Elle is the first beauty clinic in Cornwall to be able to offer this remarkable addition to our clients beauty regimes.

Hygiene is obviously an important factor and everything, apart from the pen, is disposable and used only once. All equipment is in sealed packets and opened in the presence of the client so they can be assured that all is sterile.

Our treatment room was built especially for the procedure, with plenty of natural light to work under and equipment which can be hygienically wiped down.

This process, which lasts for between two and six years, has previously been reserved for cosmetic purposes but is now being used to disguise scar tissue, discolourations, blemishes and stretch marks. It is also suitable for use after breast surgery to create or define nipples.

For non-medical purposes, semi-permanent make up can be used to give a professional look, saving time and relieving the necessity to apply, re-apply or remove.

How it Works

This amazing procedure, professionally termed micropigmentation, could give you make-up that lasts all day and all night for up to five years! The process can be used for restoring lost eyebrows, lip line or to add definition to eyes, we can even add full lip colour.

The process works by adding permanent colour (pigments) into the lower layer of the skin, called the epidermal layer, a very similar process to that of body tattooing. The pigment itself is permanent and will not wash off or wear off, but it may be affected when exposed to sunlight, sunbed rays etc.

Although the British Beauty Industry uses the term semi-permanent, it is in fact permanent and is termed as such in the USA. It could be referred to as a facial tattoo.

Obviously due to the very nature of the procedure, which involves the use of very fine needles to puncture the skin, there may be some discomfort experienced. The levels of tolerance to pain will vary from person to person, but with the aid of excellent topical anaesthetics, it is possible to ensure minimal discomfort in most cases.

We do insist on a 24 hour patch test, but this cannot wholly guarantee the possibility of an allergic reaction, it will however lesson the likelihood of severe reaction after treatment.

After Care Advice

Aftercare plays a very important part concerning the final result of your new permanent make up. It is essential that you heed the advice offered in order to maintain the best possible results.

There is likely to be some scabbing a few days after this procedure as your skin heals. The colour may appear up to 50%darker straight after application for approx. 3 days before it lightens to reveal the true colour.

Semi permanent make up will last from 18 months to 5 years plus, depending on clients' cosmetic chemistry, lifestyle, age etc. Therefore as the colour fades a top up application may be required. Total sun block applied to treated areas will prolong the life expectancy of your new make up.

The cost includes 2 treatments, the first being the longest. During this a full medical consultation and client consent form is completed. The technician will then discuss your personal colour analysis, which relates to shape, colour and style of your new make up. Before permanent application, a trial shape and colour is applied for your approval. The second treatment is conducted approx. 4-6 weeks after the first treatment, enabling the technician to touch up, lighten or darken the areas required. The degree of thickness of the skin and the personal cosmetic chemistry of each individual may affect the final result. Some clients may choose to have further treatments, others will not. In this scenario we would be delighted to advise on further treatments and costing.
